Texas Garter Snake

A beautiful Texas garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis annectens) I found with my mom today on an evening walk. She was so brave to hold him. There aren’t many colubrids in Australia so I was happy for this one to welcome me home. Large eyes, a beautiful red and black tongue, yellow-orange stripes, and turquoise speckling throughout the keeled scales — what’s not to love about garter snakes!
